Abstract: The photogrammetry-based techniques are widely used in investigation and monitoring of geohazards around the world. Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) method gains in producing high-quality images without time-consuming and high-cost to obtain the spatial information with high accuracy in the field, as well as, analysis indoors. The aim of this method is to generate the 3D terrain model, Digital surface model (DSM), Digital elevation model (DEM) and dense point clouds from the extraction of millions of feature points. Based upon a case study of Shizibao landslide in Three Gorges Reservoir region, China, the paper presents the accurate 3D topography features of landslide, interpretation of movement direction, measurement of landslide displacement, calculation of movement volume and mapping of landslide from combining of UAV images and field investigation. Moreover, various normal stresses with the same velocity of ring shear tests were carried out to evaluate the residual shear strength of slip zone soft interlayer mudstone. For further analysis and interpretation, combining the data from UAV and from the indoor experiments can provide in building the landslide model in discrete element software for stability assessment.
