Single-carrier Dual-function Radar Communications using Code Interpolation

Dual function radar communication (DFRC) can make better use of the frequency resource and hardware devices and draws lots of attention in recent years.
The single-carrier DFRC method with phase perturbation can suppress range compression sidelobes efficiently but is still unable to deal with the all-one sequence. In this paper, we further present a code interpolation method that can efficiently suppress range compression sidelobes even of the all-one sequence.
The transmit sequences is composed of two parts, one for communications codes and the other being free codes for optimization. The code slots for communications codes are associated with the same symbol of a generalized Barker sequence, which is designed with the generic algorithm.
The free codes are optimized with the sequential quadratic programming algorithm.
Numerical results indicate that this method can lead to low range sidelobes for most if not all communications sequences.
