A Cost-Effective DC Circuit Breaker Cooperating with the Converter

                摘要
                The hybrid dc circuit breaker (DCCB) is still too expensive to be widely applied. DC inductors are much larger than arm inductors. Thus, the voltage of main breakers should be extremely high to ensure fast dc fault blocking. Besides, metal oxide varistors (MOVs) should absorb the excess energy stored in inductors. In this paper, a new DCCB is proposed. Thanks to the extra diodes providing a path for the line side dc fault current, the main breaker only needs to change the converter side dc fault current, which is much easier, instead of the line side one directly. The converter will absorb the excess energy stored in dc side. Thus, the capacity of the MOV is significantly reduced. Thanks to the cooperation of the converter, the voltage stress of the main breaker is reduced too. In general, the proposed topology provides a more cost-effective solution than the hybrid DCCB.
