The Han River is one of the largest rivers in Korea and exports a significant amount of dissolved organic matter (DOM) to the Yellow Sea. However, biogeochemical cycles of DOM in the Han River are not well understood. Characterizing DOC in this region can provide an important basis for understanding the behavior of organic matter. In this study, we used solid-phase extraction (SPE) to investigate the distribution and variation of carbon isotopic ratios (Δ14C, δ13C) of DOM in the Han River. Water samples were collected at four sites along the Han River, and SPE-DOM was extracted using PPL resin (a styrene-divinylbenzene polymer). We eluted the column into three fractions (early, middle, and final). The Δ14C and δ13C of the three fractions, in addition to the total SPE-DOM, were measured. The results and implications will be discussed in the presentation.
