Early career scientists play a pivotal role in fostering international cooperation within the scientific community. The impact of institutional support and collaborative initiatives on the career development of young researchers is crucially important, highlighting the significance of nurturing talent and fostering cross-border partnerships in advancing scientific progress. The International Cooperation Center of the Second Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Natural Resources (referred to as "Center"), was established in 2024 to promote international cooperation in marine science and technology. The Center safeguards national maritime rights through memoranda of understanding, international collaborative voyages, and capacity building. It has facilitated initiatives like the China-Africa Ocean Science and Blue Economy Cooperation Center. The Center actively participates in several projects under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. Notably, the Center implements the “Mitigation of Natural Incidence Towards an Increased Oceanic Resilience” project, which aims to enhance coastal observation capabilities for Belt and Road Initiative countries and develop predictive models for marine ecological dynamics, contributing to ecological health and sustainable development. It organizes activities related to the UN Ocean Decade endorsed "Digital Deep-sea Typical Habitats Programme". Through these international collaborations, the Center enhances understanding of marine environmental changes and global capacity to address marine issues. In the realm of international training, the Center has leveraged the strengths in satellite remote sensing, marine observation, and management technologies to successfully conduct several international training programs. These initiatives have attracted participants from Asia and Africa, contributing to the development of future marine science professionals. Building on the research capabilities and international cooperation experience of the Institute, the Center is committed to establishing a widely influential international cooperation platform to promote collaboration and advancement in global marine science. The potential for early career scientists, supported by institutional efforts can drive innovation, knowledge exchange, and sustainable collaborations across borders, thereby contributing to the advancement of science and the resolution of global challenges.
