Marine ecosystems are crucial for biodiversity and provide essential ecological services. However, due to factors such as human activities and climate change, these ecosystems face significant threats worldwide, including in China's Bohai Sea. As an ecologically valuable but vulnerable ecosystem, Bohai Sea has experienced drastic changes in species diversity, community structure, and ecological functions due to overfishing, pollution, and climate change. With the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, which aims to protect 30% of global marine and land ecosystems by 2030, we use the OSMOSE ecosystem model to simulate the impacts of various conservation strategies in Bohai Sea. We evaluate the spatial and temporal planning of marine protected areas, conservation effectiveness for target species, and adaptive management measures. The results indicate that the establishment of MPAs significantly enhances biodiversity and resource abundance. Furthermore, MPAs targeting key species demonstrates significant umbrella effect, protecting a broader range of species within the ecosystem. These findings provide insights into optimizing MPA design, enhancing biodiversity protection, and supporting sustainable fisheries and economic development in the Bohai Sea. These results contribute practical strategies for marine conservation, promoting ecosystem recovery, and informing global marine protection efforts.
