Particles yield severe problems not only in environment but also in engineering field. Those particles consist of conductive and dielectric material and the conductive ones cause malfunctions due to a partial discharge in a high voltage system, such as a gas-insulated switchgear(GIS). The particle generated in the GIS is initially a neutral floating conductor.
The conductive particle, which is initially neutral, is charged when it comes into contact with a conductor surface with a high voltage with respect to the ground. So, the charged particle experiences the electric force and the drag force, it lifts off and goes around inside the GIS. Finally, this can result in a serious damage to the high voltage system.
In this paper, the corona discharge due to floating conductive particle is analyzed using the coupled equation which consists of Poisson’s and hydrodynamic drift-diffusion equation. The discharge experiment of conductive particle is carried out using a high-speed camera.
