Improving the performance of an information system in the early stage of implementation is the key to solving the high failure rate of information system construction. In this paper, which is based on sense-making theory, human capital theory, and self-determination theory, we explore the working mechanism of personal work experience and system use on performance during the initial stage of information system implementation. The focus is on the moderating effect of work experience. The result, which comes from the empirical analysis of actual data from 224 employees of large manufacturing enterprises in the system implementation stage, shows that work experience and system use have a significant positive impact on initial use performance, whereas work experience has a significant negative moderating effect on the relationship between system use and use performance.
