The ACRID 2017 conference track covering Energy and Sustainable Development is a forum for industrialists, researchers, academics, system designers, and other practitioners with the aim of exploiting common synergies. It is a particularly diverse track which covers all that is important in sustainable habitats and society. Environmental Experts report on problems and opportunities related to global warming and climate change threats. Engineers, researchers and academics report on measures to mitigate such threats, for example sustainable energy generation, green agriculture, farming in extremely dry lands Solutions related to energy production, transmission and utilisations are often accompanied other problems, such as grid impact, reliability issues and of course cost of implementation, such solutions are greatly assisted through the use of power systems simulation and planning software. Many of these tools are new to developing country universities and often quite pricey. Papers that suggest or offer solutions towards the development or use of open software are encouraged. The role of gender is very important and aspects of gender mainstreaming are considered in this track. For example wood constitutes more than 60% of domestic fuel needs in developing countries and women play the dominant role in its collection and utilization. Because of the diversity of this track, sub-tracks have been created to enable more focus. There is ample scope for the exploration and exchange of knowledge in this field through scientific talks, industry discussions, technical tutorials and panels. This call covers all aspects of energy and sustainable development for industry, research and practice, including theory, management, applications and technology, and will bring together renowned experts.
