The International Schumpeter Society was founded in 1986 at the initiative of Wolfgang F. Stolper and Horst Hanusch.
Its purpose is to further research in directions that are of interest in the spirit of Joseph A. Schumpeter. It is incorporated as a non-profit German corporation with headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. The membership totals to 375 members from 44 countries (March 2015).
