The Mediated Communication, Public Opinion & Society section invites submissions for its open sessions at the IAMCR annual conference that will be held from 20 - 24 June, 2018 in Eugene, Oregon, USA on the conference theme: Reimagining Sustainability: Communication and Media Research in a Changing World. Abstracts must be submitted only via IAMCR's Open Conference System (OCS) at https://iamcr-ocs.org from 9 November 2017 – 31 January 2018. (For more information on submissions and decisions, see below)First and foremost, we invite papers and panels submissions that relate to the overall conference theme and to the aims of the section in general.
We secondly wish also to continue our well-established tradition to promote theoretical discussions in the field of communication research. In the last years, we organized panels that discussed the contribution of the works of Goffman, Habermas, Schutz, Bourdieu, Foucault, McLuhan, Walter Benjamin, Roland Barthes, and Antonio Gramsci among others. From this year on, we would like to encourage debates on theoretical concepts and facilitate at least one session centred on the development, status quo and future of the theory of mediatization/medialization/mediation.
In addition, we would like to continue our long-standing interest in the discussion, development and critical assessment of methodologies for communication research and here especially for international, cross cultural, and transnational research projects, both quantitative and qualitative.
Abstracts are to be sent to the MPS Section Heads via the IAMCR's Open Conference System (OCS) at https://iamcr-ocs.org, and must be no longer than 500 words long in English. Each abstract must include title, name(s), affiliation, institutional address and email address of author(s) and a short (up to 100 words) bio-data.
We also invite full panel proposals of no more than four participants. A complete panel proposal includes: (i) a panel description (panel title, details of the moderator and optional discussant, and a framing text) and; (ii) an abstract for each presentation. The panel coordinator must submit the complete proposal. In case that all panellists are affiliated within an institution of the same country, please ensure that the panel chair is affiliated to an institution from a different country.
Non members of IAMCR and/or of the section are welcome to submit and present if accepted, following the same procedure as described above and if accepted also the procedure as described below.
