The study for exoplanetary systems is the most promising research field in modern astronomy. Although more than 3600 extra solar planets have been discovered by using different techniques, they are still not enough to understand the diversity and population ofplanets well. That is why many surveys are still operating now. On the other hand, among all the discovered exoplanetary systems, only a very small part are characterized better:precise system parameters, planet atmosphere, transit timing variation (TTV), properties of host stars, etc. These information are the key clues to investigate the formation, structure and evolution of exoplanets.
To push local development on the research field of exoplanetary systems in China, the first one of this series of workshops was held in Kunming in November, 2014, which brought theforeign researchers and the local ones together to discuss the status, progress andfuture direction of exoplanet research. All participants of that workshop thought the meeting is very important to promote the local research activity and suggested it should be extended as a series of workshops. Now it is the time to hold the second one, its topics will focus on the discovery, characterization of exoplanetary systems, and other relative issues.
