Fire is a major hazard in many industrial, transportation and military applications requiring the use of approved fire-resistant fluids. Fire-resistant fluids are an essential component for the safe operation of systems in these industries where there is a risk of fire due to the requirements of that industry. Industry trends for higher performance, lower system fluid volumes and higher operating temperatures may be increasing the potential for fire in some applications. The need has perhaps never been greater since the initial development of fire-resistant fluids for test methods and industry standards that are reproducible, accurately discriminate the level of fire resistance between fluids and directly relate to specific application fire hazards. The objective of the symposium is to hold a technical forum for papers related to current trends for fire-resistant fluids and their development, testing, classification, regulation, application, use and monitoring.
