Aging and genetic factors are the overwhelming causes of several neurodegenerative disorders. The commonness of these disorders is snowballing due to the increase in the human life span, making neuronal degenerative pathologies a serious public health problem. Growing evidence suggests that alterations of basic physiological processes may concur in the pathogenesis of several distinct neurodegenerative processes. This GRC aims to assemble leaders in the fields of basic and disease-focused neuroscience, as well as normal aging, to discuss how alterations of normal biological processes can lead, when altered, to pathophysiological consequences and neurodegenerative disorders. In this context, the conference aims to provide a platform in which artificial borders between basic and translational science are removed leading to synergistic interactions.
